Leadership Development – The Online Experience Print E-mail
MAT now offers several of its leadership development courses online. What is online learning? For one, it IS NOT computer-based training. Rather, MAT has developed its courses using an interactive, instructor-led approach. These are challenging courses that are also fun and interesting. The courses are asynchronous, meaning you will not meet with your class at specific times. You work on your own schedule, from any location with an Internet accessible computer. Of course there are deadlines, and you will need to keep up with the weekly work in the class, but if you prefer to work at 3:00 p.m. or 3 a.m. it does not matter. The courses center around online discussions forums, so you will interact with your classmates.

Leadership is a demanding calling, and the skills required to exercise leadership cannot be developed on the sidelines. It requires action and commitment. Are you ready for the leadership challenge?

What to expect in an online class
  • 5 hours of work per week (on your own schedule) – The courses all have reading assignments, online (asynchronous) discussions, and some exercises and projects.
  • User-friendly environment – Online does not mean “techie” only. If you know how the basics of surfing the web, email, and MS Office you are ready to thrive in an online course.
  • Challenging work – these classes are thought provoking and require generating ideas for the class discussions and exercises.
  • Learning Flexibility – These courses are designed for emerging leaders, and the courses offer the ability to work on your own time and schedule. Deadlines are important, but how you meet those deadlines is your choice.
  • Involved instructors – the online instructors facilitate the learning and will be available to help with whatever class-related needs you may have.
  • Expert technical support – Whenever you work, technical help is a phone call away. Online learning comes with 24/7/365 phone and email support.

What you need

  • Any computer that can reliably connect to the Internet
  • An email address
  • The will and desire to learn the competencies to become a more effective leader.

The following courses are samples of MAT's online courses offered as part of the State F&W Leadership Development Toolbox.
