4-weeks ($42 registration and $9.82 for materials. No book)
Did you ever feel that if you could just rise up like a helicopter out of the work trenches, high enough, you’d be able to see how everything fits or how to fix problems within your agency? Gaining this virtual altitude is now possible and without the jarring inconvenience of a helicopter!
Building on works of the FranklinCovey Company, Peter Senge, Edgar Schien, Daniel Katz, Robert Kahn, and others, this course takes you outside the ordinary work perspective to a "helicopter view" of your agency. You will be given a model for re-defining the parts of an agency that is all encompassing and applicable to a whole agency , a bureau, or even a work group.
In addition you will learn how to fit those parts together for a complete agency picture, and how those different parts of the agency interact. This course is designed to help you determine how to use the helicopter model for addressing root agency problems and not just symptoms.
Specific Course Learning Objectives Include:
Understand how agencies are like ecosystems in their operation Be able to rise above everyday crises and look broadly at root causes for crisis Understand all the parts of an agency and how they interact Know the dangers of "tampering" Be able to use the "helicopter model" of organizations for designing agencies and agency units Be able to use the "helicopter model" to define problems clearly and arrive at correct solutions
This is a four-week course conducted in weekly segments. Each week participants will be expected to read the assignments and post discussion ideas by Wednesday of that week. Comments on other classmates’ postings are due by Sunday at midnight and all exercises, papers, etc. are due by midnight on Sunday of each week. |
